The assessment process is standardized. Once the assessment process has been completed, eligible applicants will be placed on a waiting list. Client hours are assigned on the basis of need, as determined by assessment outcomes.
Applicants must require assistance with activities of daily living in order to be considered eligible for attendant services (i.e. bathing, dressing). Applicants who require only homemaking assistance are not eligible to receive attendant services.

There is a waitlist for services, however priority will be given to applicants who are attempting to leave, or who have left an abusive situation, are being discharged from an institutional setting, or are at risk of institutional or facility placement, or if their personal support system is failing or absent (i.e. are living alone or with dependent children or aging parents) or their safety is at risk due to lack of services.

Clients will receive services provided by our attendants including bathing, feeding, dressing, toileting, bowel and bladder routines, transfers and lifting by mechanical lifts, medication management, meal preparation and cleanup and laundry. Applicants must be able to direct their own services.

Client hours are assigned on the basis of need, as determined by assessment outcomes. A unique service plan is developed with each client.

Clients and/or their families are responsible for ordering, delivery and administration of medications. Our attendants will provide medication reminders and under direction of the client, assist with taking medications if medications are contained in a blister pack.

We do not provide medical services. All medical services are obtained by the client and/or their family through external sources.

There are no fees to the client. All costs are covered by the Ministry of Health.

Priority will be given to those of imminent placement in inappropriate institutional settings or trying to leave an inappropriate placement, those needing assistance to maintain or obtain employment or education or leaving an abusive situation. Each week our Intake team will meet to discuss the status and needs of each Neighbourhood of Care facility.

In Supportive Housing, you enter into a Landlord/Tenant agreement as you would with any other apartment building. You have the right to come and go as you please, have the privacy of your own apartment with a kitchen and bathroom where our staff cannot enter without your permission, but are available to you for your self-directed, scheduled support. ALSO staff can accommodate a wide range of physical support needs in Supportive Housing Units, similar to Long Term Care. In order to qualify for Supportive Housing, clients need to be 16 years of age or older, have a physical disability, are able to direct their own care and can remain safe in their home along for extended periods of time.
